HPF Elder Job Description (Draft)

Character

  • meets the requirements laid out in Scripture, especially in I Timothy 3 and Titus 1. See also BCO chapter 8

  • Vibrant prayer life

  • Actively sharing his faith with unbelievers

  • Available to know and be known by his fellow elders and, to a lesser extent, by our congregation

Requirements

  • Attend Sunday worship 100% of Sundays when in town

  • Attend 100% of session meetings when in town

  • Completed Living for the King training

  • Attend 75% of church gatherings (picnics, outreach, etc)

  • Attend Gathered Prayer meetings of the church. If you are unable to attend one of the regularly offered meeting times, then please talk to the pastor about setting up an alternative prayer gathering.

  • Tithe 10% of income to the local church, other giving on top of that

  • Serve a 4-year term after which a sabbatical year is offered. He may return to another term of service after his sabbatical.

Ministry

  • Set overall direction and budget for the church

  • Oversee and care for all staff (including pastor) and ministry teams

  • Lead a Community Group and/or a ministry team 

  • Available to shepherd troubled marriages and individuals in congregation

  • Available for visitation especially for the sick and lonely

  • Actively discipling and equipping member(s) of younger generations—this could be taking place in Community Group or ministry team

  • Serve communion regularly

  • Serve regularly in ‘behind the scenes’ Sunday needs
